This is a property at Sadale Madale, outskirts of Kolhapur, in an agricultural setting, amidst greenery and is used for residential purpose on one acre of land. Pednekars, a retired couple from Mumbai, who need a home away from home where they can feel tranquility in the ‘Aamrai’ which they have planted themselves at Sadale Madale.

The house is anchored by long and deep three-sided verandah and a central courtyard which is at the apex and the house is planned around this courtyard. One bedroom on ground floor and one on first floor each, facing west with a large window to get amazing views of the sunset.

The courtyard is skylit with 12 circular punctures in four rows. A 25 feet high Jaali wall of the courtyard with 12 small circular windows in three rows having hierarchy of glass bricks in between. It is a reminiscent of traditional Indian home with a touch of modernity. Basalt stoned Vitthal idol is enthroned against the Jaali wall in the courtyard which opens up in living, dining and C shaped staircase with three large archways with round columns ended with long sitting platforms as a transitional space.

Frangipani tree accommodates the center of the courtyard as the highlight with C-shaped staircase around it and a small, shallow pond around the tree to have soothing effect which can be decorated with marigold flowers and candles in festive occasions. Overlooking balcony has partial visual connectivity between first floor and internal courtyard, living and dining area on the ground floor.

East side encompasses dining sit-out on ground floor and first floor is the family room sit-out having sloping roof views towards ‘aamrai’ and gazebo in front of it to cherish the beautiful view with adjoining three-sided sloping roof above living room and verandah.

Niches are carved out on the exterior walls of living room and decorated with Rangoli /motifs around it. Living room windows have Teakwood framed paneling having traditional look. Verandah has MS fabricated sloping roof with concrete tiles and some glass roof tiles at interval for skylight entering the home.
